Persons who ignores the COVID-19 protocols in Greater Accra from Tuesday, August 10, 2021 will face arrest or prosecution.
Meanwhile the Greater Accra Coordinating Council gave a directive to the Metropolitan, Municipalities and District Assemblies to be vigilant as the region tops cases of covid-19 infection.
The Regional Director of Health, Dr Charity Sarpong explained that in the latest figure from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Greater Accra is now a hot spot in the third wave of the disease – recording over three thousand active cases of the highly infectious Delta variant.
He urged the MMDAs to immediately reactivate Public Health Emergency Management Committee to deal with persons who fail to comply with the wearing of nose masks, practicing social distancing and frequently washing of hands.
Dr Charity Sarpong said, “we were just recording about 100 cases a week but just from the ending of June to July, we’ve began to see a huge rise in the number of Covid-19 infectious cases and I must say we are now recording about 200 cases a day. That’s why we are calling for Government’s intervention to implement policies to help control the infection.”
She continued, “we are also collaborating with the Regional Security Council and the Regional Police Command to ensure that people adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.”
