Breastfeeding mothers urged to stick to the six months exclusive initiative

The New Juaben Municipal Nutritionist, Mr Paul, has encouraged mothers to adhere to the six months exclusive breastfeeding initiative to enhance the health of their babies.

He stated that the Eastern Region is ranked least in terms of breastfeeding in the Multiple Cluster Survey Data collected.

“According to our data it appears to be good just that in 2017, the Multiple Indicater Cluster Survey shows that the Eastern Region part of Ghana had least when it comes to the breastfeeding initiative,” Mr Paul said.

“But when you compare the data generated from New Juaben, it appears that the situation is okay but we also want to pay attention to the duration of exclusive breastfeeding because the policy says it should be done for six months. When we do an assessment of children who are breastfed for three months you can see that the average seems to be going down over the years.”

Currently we are about 87% which ideally is not good, it means as it progresses to six months most of them will be stopping to breastfeed their babies because of work issues and other challenging associates.”

He furthermore urges corporate organisations to create space in the institution to enable mothers exercise exclusive breastfeeding.
