Euro 2020: France and Portugal enter last 16 in a thrilling draw

Portugal 2-2 Germany

France and Portugal drew 2-2 in Budapest. Didier Deschamps’ team won the first place in Group F, while Portugal is still eligible to enter the top 16 after finishing as one of the four best third-place.

In a rather dramatic turn of event at the 2020 European Cup, former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo (30) and Karim Benzema (45+2) earned penalty opportunities, which secured a 1-1 draw at half time.

Benzema however, landed another penalty in the 47th minute, after VAR determined that he was in the onside. This tossed Portugal to the briefly to the bottom, as Ronaldo converted his second penalty in the 60th minute – which secured a hopeful dream for his team.

Portugal occupies every position in the group at a specific time throughout the game. They are looking forward to a showdown with England at Wembley, but Germany’s final equalizer against Hungary earned them second place, which means Fernando Santos’ side against Belgium in the last 16.
