The 2020 parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency, Mr Paul Asare Ansah, has stated that he does not make political promises but actually delivers on his plans for his constituency.

Speaking to Nana Yaw Adwenpa on CTV’s Ghana Kasa show, the former Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) said he has already started implementing his plans for his constituency even before he is voted into parliament.

Some of the programmes already being rolled out include a scholarship scheme for brilliant junior high school students, organising free extra classes and mock examination for junior high students in the Asuogyaman district, organising debate and quiz competitions, providing textbooks and helping the poor, needy and disabled as well as instituting a football league to unearth talents and helping them develop into professionals, among many others.

Mr Asare Ansah added that as a result of his direct interventions in the education sector within the Asuogyaman District, academic standards have improved, with the district moving from 17th to 10th position in the Eastern Region.

He said the pass rate for BECE has also jumped from 67% to 73% as far as the 2018 results were concerned.

According to him, part of his vision is to ensure that in 10 years, every household in the Asuogyaman Constituency has a minimum of two tertiary graduates.

COVID-19 in Asuogyaman District

In response to a question about how the Asuogyaman District has been handling the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, Mr Asare Ansah noted that as soon as the virus broke out in Ghana, he embarked on a sensitisation programme within the district which ensured that citizens were abreast with safety precautions.

This situation, he explained, helped people residing in the district to raise red flags when they suspected that some people might have contracted the virus. He further added that the COVID-19 situation in Asuogyaman has been effectively contained without any community spread.

Bringing Parliament Close to the People

Mr Asare Ansah also said he is determined to bring parliament close to his constituents through regular town hall meetings with the chiefs and people of the Asuogyaman constituency for purposes of explaining the government’s programmes and policies to them, which will also serve as a platform for rendering account of his stewardship to the constituents.

Developments in Asuogyaman

Mr Asare Ansah said the port construction project at Mpakadan, which is part of the railway project, will be the game-changer for the people, since it will create a lot of jobs for the youth who are mostly unemployed.

He also mentioned that the Akosombo – Jekiti, Anum Boso – Gemeni and Apeguso – Mpakadan road projects which are currently under construction, as well as the promise by President Nana Akufo-Addo to build a District Hospital in Asuogyaman, are on course.

The former GPHA D-G added that he is leading the development agenda by lobbying the authorities so as to ensure that the Asuogyaman constituency benefits from the fruits of his efforts, which, he believes, will manifest as new projects under the government’s Infrastructure for Development Programme.

He appealed to the electorate in the Asuogyaman constituency to vote for him as a result of his track record and the evidence of the good work he has already started.
