Accra Circuit Court remands man for stealing police officer’s pistol, uniform

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded an unemployed man, Prince Terkpor, into custody for allegedly stealing a police officer’s uniform, service pistol, mobile phone and cash.

Terkpor, who pleaded not guilty, was denied bail by the presiding judge, Dennis Fummy, and is to remain in lawful custody until April 1, 2026.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Seth Frimpong and Inspector Priscilla Avorgah, opposed bail, indicating that the accused is assisting with ongoing investigations into a separate robbery incident at Michelle Camp. They assured the court that investigations would be expedited to enable a swift trial.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Frederick Ablorh, a police officer with the Accra Regional Counter Terrorism Unit, resides in Tesano, Accra, where the accused also lives.

The court heard that Ablorh, after returning from night duty on February 18, 2026, visited his wife’s shop at Lapaz, where Terkpor worked as a shop assistant. While the officer slept, Terkpor allegedly tampered with the shop’s CCTV system by removing its memory chip before stealing a bag containing a police uniform, identity cards, a Ghana Police Service pistol, an iPhone XR and GH¢600.

Prosecutors further alleged that Terkpor sold the iPhone XR for GH¢400 at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and later checked into a hotel in Ashaiman, where he is said to have used the stolen pistol to carry out another robbery at Michelle Camp.

During police interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to the offences, the court was told.
