Agribusiness Expert Unveils Big Youth Push Under Nkoko Nkitinkiti And Feed Ghana Programme

Agribusiness Expert, Dr. Margaret Opoku-Agyemang has outlined the government’s major plan to make poultry farming a key driver of youth employment and import substitution under the Feed Ghana and Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiatives.

Speaking at a youth engagement forum, SHE said the plan goes beyond backyard poultry to a full commercial value chain TO absorb thousands of young Ghanaians.

According to her, the government is implementing a five-year Agricultural Risk Management Strategy targeting poultry, tomatoes and maize, with poultry as the flagship.

Under the youth in poultry initiative, the government will distribute brooded and vaccinated birds to 200 beneficiaries per constituency, after a successful pilot in 11 regions extended to 5 northern regions.

The target is to lift domestic poultry sufficiency beyond 80% and save over US$350 million to US$600 million spent annually on frozen chicken imports.
