The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has apologised to a private pickup driver, Mr Kingsley Boateng, following an alleged extortion incident involving a City Guard and refunded the money collected from him.
The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said privately registered vehicles used for personal purposes are not required to pay the vehicle sticker fee allegedly demanded from Mr Boateng.
He disclosed that the officer involved had been apprehended and detained, stressing that the conduct was not authorised by the AMA and would not be tolerated.
The Mayor warned City Guards and other enforcement officers against demanding unauthorised payments from the public and urged residents to report suspected misconduct through 0544 916 4628.
He also encouraged motorists and other residents to demand official receipts for any payments made to AMA officers to ensure transparency and accountability.
