AMA approves GH¢34.65m increase in revised 2026 budget

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) General Assembly has approved a revised 2026 budget that increases the Assembly’s revenue and expenditure projections by approximately GH¢34.65 million.

The revised budget represents a 26.76 per cent increase over the Assembly’s original 2026 budget and is aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation while creating room to finance additional programmes, infrastructure and social intervention projects during the second half of the year.

The revised mid-year budget was presented to the General Assembly on Thursday, August 13, 2026, by the Metro Director of Budget, Mr Noble Atsu Ahadzie, on behalf of the Mayor.

According to Mr Ahadzie, the review forms part of the statutory assessment of the Assembly’s revenue, expenditure, programmes and projects and was undertaken in accordance with Sections 28(1) and 35(1) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).

He explained that the exercise was intended to evaluate the Assembly’s financial performance, improve the mobilisation and utilisation of resources, support effective management decisions and provide technical guidance for implementing the budget during the remaining months of 2026.

The revised estimates include increased revenue projections from markets, permits and other economic activities, as the Assembly seeks to intensify revenue collection from various business and property-related sources.

Mr Ahadzie said the additional revenue projections would also enable the AMA to expand its educational interventions, including public education and sensitisation programmes, the provision of teaching and learning materials, scholarships and other forms of educational support.

The revised budget further makes provision for the procurement of tricycles, school bags and tablets, alongside a capacity-building programme for Assembly Members.

Several infrastructure and social intervention projects have also been incorporated into the revised budget. These include the reconstruction of the Awudome Cemetery walls and the rehabilitation of basic school facilities across the metropolis.

Educational projects earmarked for renovation include classroom blocks at Ashia-Mills JHS and Primary School, Central Mosque 1 and 2 Primary School, Accra Presbyterian Primary School, Amamomo JHS 1 and 2, Akoto Lantey Primary School and Aayalolo Kindergarten.

With the approval of the revised budget, the AMA is expected to intensify revenue mobilisation efforts in the second half of 2026 in a bid to achieve its revised Internally Generated Fund (IGF) target and secure the resources needed to implement the newly approved programmes and projects.
