Army Chief joins Defence Chief to inspect progress on Accra-Kumasi Expressway

The Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has joined the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to inspect progress of work on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

The inspection was conducted on Monday, August 31, 2026, as part of efforts to assess the state of work and monitor developments on the major road project.

The visit provided the military leadership with an opportunity to observe ongoing works along the expressway and assess progress on the project, which is expected to improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi and enhance the movement of people and goods.

Major General Gbetanu’s participation alongside Lieutenant General Agyapong underscores the military leadership’s interest in developments concerning major national infrastructure and their potential impact on transportation, mobility and national development.

The Accra-Kumasi corridor remains one of Ghana’s key transport routes, linking the national capital to the Ashanti Region and serving communities and businesses along the route.

The inspection forms part of efforts to monitor the progress of the project and ensure that ongoing works remain aligned with the broader objective of improving Ghana’s road infrastructure.
