The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has engaged members of the Ecumenical Community at Bank Square in Accra as part of its ongoing stakeholder consultations and public education on the Non-Interest Banking and Finance (NIBF) framework.

The engagement, held on Monday, August 31, 2026, was led by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, and provided a platform for stakeholders to raise concerns, seek clarification and gain a better understanding of the regulatory framework governing NIBF.

Dr. Asiama explained that Non-Interest Banking and Finance is intended to complement conventional banking rather than replace it, offering consumers greater choice within a sound, inclusive and non-discriminatory financial system.
He noted that the focus of the framework is on its economic and developmental benefits, including expanding access to financial services, promoting product diversity and enhancing consumer choice.
The Governor also clarified the Bank of Ghana’s role in regulating NIBF, stressing that the institution’s responsibility is regulatory rather than religious.

He emphasised that the Bank does not take positions on religious beliefs but is focused on regulating financial institutions and products to ensure stability, fairness and consumer protection.
Dr. Asiama further highlighted the importance of continuous engagement and public education, stressing that discussions surrounding the NIBF framework must allow for feedback from stakeholders.
He said ongoing dialogue would help address concerns, improve public understanding and ensure that the implementation of Non-Interest Banking and Finance supports broader financial inclusion and economic development in Ghana.
