Carlos Queiroz Returns As Ghana Head Coach Two Months After Resigning

Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has been re-appointed as head coach of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, just two months after stepping down from the position.

Queiroz resigned following Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, but he has now returned to lead the team into its next phase.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) cited Queiroz’s extensive international coaching experience as one of the reasons for bringing him back. The 73-year-old has previously coached national teams including Iran, Portugal, Colombia and Egypt.

His new assignment is expected to begin during the next international window from September 21 to October 6. Ghana is scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire in home-and-away fixtures as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification process.

His return is already likely to generate discussion among Ghanaian football fans, particularly over what the second stint could mean for the future of the Black Stars.

For Queiroz, the immediate task will be to build on his previous experience with the team while preparing Ghana for its upcoming international commitments.
