The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a student of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School, with two watchmen of the school identified in connection with the incident.

According to a statement issued by the GES on Thursday, August 20, 2026, preliminary information indicates that the student is a special-needs student who is on medication. The Service said the student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention, during which the alleged incident occurred.

The two watchmen have since been arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation. GES management has also interdicted them with immediate effect.

The Education Service said investigations into the matter are ongoing and that appropriate sanctions will be applied based on the outcome of the investigations, in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

GES has further reiterated its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students, stressing that it will not tolerate conduct that compromises the welfare of students within schools.

The Service has also assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves as investigations continue.
