The Bank of Ghana has published its daily exchange rates for Friday, August 21, 2026, showing the buying and selling rates of the Ghana cedi against three major international currencies—the US dollar, British pound sterling and the euro.
According to the rates, the US dollar is being bought at GH¢11.0945 and sold at GH¢11.1056. The British pound sterling is trading at a buying rate of GH¢15.1228 and a selling rate of GH¢15.1391.
Meanwhile, the euro is quoted at a buying rate of GH¢12.9543 and a selling rate of GH¢12.9660.
The Bank of Ghana explained that the figures represent the average interbank rates used by commercial banks for transactions at the close of business on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The published rates provide an indication of the prevailing foreign exchange market conditions and serve as an important reference for businesses, importers, exporters and individuals involved in transactions involving foreign currencies.
Exchange rates can influence the cost of imported goods, international payments and other foreign currency-related transactions. Businesses that depend on imports, in particular, closely monitor movements in the cedi against major currencies when making pricing and financial decisions.
The latest figures therefore provide a snapshot of the foreign exchange market as Ghana enters the final weeks of August.
Cedi Exchange Rates: How Much the Dollar, Pound and Euro Are Trading at the Bank of Ghana
The Ghana cedi is trading at different rates against major international currencies, according to the Bank of Ghana’s daily exchange rate figures released for Friday, August 21, 2026.
The US dollar recorded a buying rate of GH¢11.0945 and a selling rate of GH¢11.1056. This means that while the difference between the buying and selling rates is relatively small, the figures provide a benchmark for foreign exchange transactions through commercial banks.
The pound sterling remains the highest-valued of the three currencies listed, with a buying rate of GH¢15.1228 and a selling rate of GH¢15.1391.
The euro, meanwhile, is quoted at GH¢12.9543 for buying and GH¢12.9660 for selling.
The Bank of Ghana stated that these are average interbank rates used by commercial banks for transactions at the close of business on Thursday, August 20.
For consumers and businesses, exchange rates are significant because fluctuations in the value of the cedi can affect the amount paid for goods and services priced in foreign currencies. Importers, travellers, students paying international fees and businesses making overseas payments are among those who may be affected by changes in exchange rates.
The published rates consequently offer market participants a reference point as they make foreign currency-related financial decisions.
