Ghana Manganese Company Limited targets record 700,000 tonnes in August 2026
Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC) has projected a record monthly production of 700,000 tonnes in August 2026, citing improved weather conditions and the successful commissioning of new heavy-duty equipment as key drivers of the anticipated increase in output.
The company, in a press release issued on Monday, August 3, described the projected production as a major operational milestone that brings it closer to achieving its annual production target of 8 million tonnes.
According to GMC, the expected surge in production follows a significant reduction in rainfall after months of wet-season disruptions that affected mining operations and the movement of ore.
As Ghana’s sole producer and exporter of manganese, the company operates the Nsuta open-pit mine in the Western Region, where heavy rainfall from May to July typically slows haulage and processing operations.
However, with the onset of August, the company said rainfall has reduced considerably, resulting in improved pit conditions that are expected to boost productivity.
GMC noted that the combination of favourable weather and the gradual commissioning of newly acquired high-capacity equipment has positioned the company to achieve one of its strongest monthly production performances in recent years.
The mining company also reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence and long-term sustainable growth.
Drawing on more than a century of mining experience, GMC said it remains focused on maintaining its competitive position through operational innovation while continuing to operate efficiently within the lower end of the global cost curve.
Beyond supplying manganese ore to the global steel industry, the company said its high-grade carbonate manganese ore is increasingly being recognised as an important raw material for the fast-growing new-energy battery supply chain.
