Ghana Police Service apprehends man captured assaulting suspect in viral video
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, who was captured in a viral video assaulting a pastor who had been apprehended over an alleged offence.
The pastor, Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, was picked up by the police on Wednesday, August 12, following another video circulating on social media in which he allegedly made derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 13, the Police Service said Zakaria is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the incident.
The Police said the suspect will be put before the court after investigations are completed.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Bureau is expected to establish what led to the assault and determine the conduct of the officers or other persons involved.
The Police Service said all persons found culpable will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes.
