Ghana Water Ltd to resume spillage at Weija sam

Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has announced plans to resume spillage at the Weija Dam from Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following a rise in the dam’s water level.

According to GWL, the water level has reached 45.2 feet, driven by heavy rainfall upstream of the dam and continued rains within the catchment area of the Densu River and its tributaries.

The company said the level is approaching the 46-foot threshold, making the resumption of spillage necessary as a precautionary measure to protect the dam and prevent potential risks associated with rising water levels.

GWL has therefore urged all residents living downstream of the Weija Dam to evacuate the area ahead of the spillage and remain alert to official safety and evacuation directives.

Communities identified as potentially affected include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Ada Kopey, and surrounding areas.

The company has also called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), District Assemblies, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, residents’ associations and other relevant stakeholders to take precautionary measures and prepare for possible evacuation.

GWL said it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates to the public.

It stressed that the safety of residents remains its priority, while urging the public to cooperate fully with the authorities and avoid activities that could expose them to danger.
