Gov’t to cover medical bills of children injured in Dzorwulu crash – Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured families of children injured in a road crash that occurred on Thursday, July 30, 2026, on the Dzorwulu-Accra Mall stretch that the government will fully support their recovery, including covering the cost of their medical treatment.
The Minister gave the assurance during a visit to some of the injured children on Friday, July 31, 2026, receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital following the accident involving a school bus and a tipper truck.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, Dr. Lartey expressed sympathy to the injured children and their families and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare.
“As the Minister responsible for children’s welfare, I want to assure the families of government’s commitment and support, especially that of President John Dramani Mahama, in ensuring the full recovery of the children,” she said.
She further assured parents that they would not bear the financial burden of their children’s medical care.
“The families will not be burdened with the cost of the children’s medical treatment, allowing them to concentrate on providing the emotional care and support their children need,” the Minister added.
The Minister said investigations into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing and expressed confidence that the appropriate authorities would establish the facts and ensure accountability where necessary.
Dr. Lartey is expected to visit the remaining injured children receiving treatment at other health facilities to offer government support and monitor their recovery.
Meanwhile, one child reportedly died in the early hours of Friday from the impact of the accident.
