Interior Minister Urges Police Commanders to Strengthen Leadership and Professionalism

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has praised police officers for their commitment and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security across the country.

Speaking at a conference for Regional Police Commanders, the Minister stressed that the conduct of police officers plays a key role in shaping public confidence in state institutions. He urged commanders to strengthen leadership, accountability and professionalism to meet the increasing security expectations of Ghanaians.

Mr. Muntaka also highlighted technology-driven initiatives designed to improve policing, including the TRAFITECH automated road traffic enforcement system and the National Criminal Automated Biometric Identification System.

He disclosed that more than 700 digital enrolment stations are expected to be deployed nationwide by the end of 2026. The initiative is expected to strengthen intelligence-led policing, enhance investigations and support crime prevention.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, also called on Regional Commanders to provide effective leadership and help transform the Ghana Police Service into a professional, visible, competent, just and trusted institution.

He further urged commanders to deepen collaboration within the national security architecture and strengthen cooperation to address emerging security challenges.

The conference brought together members of the Police Management Board, senior officials of the Ministry of the Interior, the Medical Director of the Police Hospital, the Commandant of the Police Academy and Regional Police Commanders from across the country.
