Late Dr Murtala Mohammed honoured with moment of silence at Environment Ministry handover ceremony

A solemn moment of silence was observed in honour of the late Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Murtala, former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, during the handing-over ceremony for newly appointed Minister, Dr Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings.

The brief but emotional tribute was held as officials, directors and staff of the Ministry gathered to witness the formal transition of leadership following President Mahama’s recent ministerial reshuffle.

The late Dr Murtala Mohammed died on August 6, 2025, together with Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and six others in the military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region while on national assignment.

His portfolio had since been under acting oversight.

The newly appointed Minister, Dr Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, now takes over the ministry at a time when issues of illegal mining, plastic pollution, climate resilience and scientific brain drain remain major national concerns.
