Developer LMI Holdings has announced plans to complete the first 700 housing units under the revived Saglemi Housing Project by March 2027, as efforts intensify to transform the long-delayed development into a functional residential community.

The developer is also targeting the completion of the full first phase, comprising 1,500 housing units, by December 2027.

The development is expected to provide much-needed accommodation for Ghanaians while giving new impetus to a housing project that has remained at the centre of public discussion for several years.

Under the latest plan, work will focus initially on delivering the first 700 units by March 2027. The remaining units in the first phase are expected to be completed by the end of December 2027.

The Saglemi Housing Project, located in the Greater Accra Region, was originally initiated to help address Ghana’s housing deficit. However, the project faced years of delays, controversies and challenges before efforts were made to revive its development.

The involvement of LMI Holdings is expected to bring renewed momentum to the project, with attention now shifting towards completing the unfinished housing units and putting the facilities to productive use.

The successful completion of the first phase could provide relief to prospective homeowners and contribute to efforts to expand access to decent and affordable housing.

Beyond the construction of the housing units, the project will also require supporting infrastructure and essential services to ensure that the development functions as a sustainable residential community.

The March 2027 target for the first 700 units and the December 2027 deadline for the entire 1,500-unit first phase will therefore be closely watched as the revived project moves from plans to implementation.

If achieved, the timelines could mark a significant step in the effort to finally realise the objectives of the Saglemi Housing Project and bring the long-awaited development into meaningful use.
