NCPTAs demands full accountability in BOGISS case

The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) has commended state institutions for their swift response to the reported sexual abuse of a 14-year-old student with autism at Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS), while demanding full accountability and justice.

In a statement dated August 20, 2026, the NCPTAs acknowledged actions by the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Police Service. The Ministry has condemned the incident, ordered an investigation, provided medical and psychosocial support to the victim, and directed the immediate reinstatement of her boarding status. The GES has interdicted the two watchmen allegedly involved, while police have arrested suspects and committed to prosecuting them.

The NCPTAs called for both administrative and criminal accountability. It urged the GES to dismiss and debar interdicted staff where appropriate, conduct background checks and vet security personnel, strengthen child-protection training, and review recruitment practices in schools.

It also called on the Attorney-General, Director of Public Prosecutions and the Judiciary to ensure diligent prosecution under Ghana’s laws, including provisions protecting children from abuse and exploitation.

The council further urged schools and PTAs to strengthen safeguarding measures, including monitored access points, supervised areas and strict visitor logs. It called on the BOGISS and Upper East Regional PTA leadership to support the victim and her family.

The NCPTAs stressed that there must be no plea bargains, no unnecessary delays and no impunity, insisting that every child deserves protection, dignity and a safe school environment.
