New Airport Project to Ease Traffic Congestion – John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama says the ongoing redevelopment of the Accra International Airport is expected to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and make movement around the facility easier for passengers.

He made the remarks during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a Multi-Tiered, Multi-Purpose Car Park and Airport Hotels Complex.

The project will comprise two hotels, a pedestrian walkway connecting the complex to the airport terminal, and more than 2,000 parking spaces. Plans also include a shopping mall with a food court, retail outlets and office spaces, alongside a sky lounge and observatory offering views of aircraft.

President Mahama praised the Minister of Transport and other stakeholders for facilitating the projects without direct government financing.

He said the government had not provided funding to the two institutions undertaking the projects, describing the initiative as an example of the kind of development the government wants to see.

“Develop our country but don’t go to Ato Forson and ask for money,” he said.

The President urged the contractor and consultants to maintain high construction standards, ensure value for money and complete the project within the agreed timeframe. He also called for strict compliance with project specifications, effective cost management and close supervision throughout the construction period.

He further directed the project managers to anticipate and resolve challenges that could delay construction or compromise quality.

President Mahama also stressed the importance of keeping the public informed about key project milestones and any temporary traffic changes resulting from the construction.

He said airport users should receive adequate advance notice of diversions and other disruptions to help minimise inconvenience and maintain public confidence during the project.
