NPP protest is about principle, not politics –Former National Youth Organiser, Anthony Karbo

Former National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has described the party’s upcoming ‘Democracy Under Attack Demo’ as a civic action aimed at demanding accountability from government rather than a political exercise.

Anthony Karbo said the protest, scheduled for Thursday, August 6, is intended to remind government that political authority is derived from the people and that leaders must remain accountable to citizens throughout their tenure.

According to the former Lawra Member of Parliament, the NPP has consistently upheld the principle of holding leaders responsible for their actions and decisions, regardless of which party is in power.

He therefore urged Ghanaians from all walks of life to participate in the demonstration, arguing that the issues being raised go beyond party lines and concern the broader principles of democracy, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights.

“This is not about politics. This is about principle. We are demonstrating on Thursday to remind them that power belongs to the people…Let’s meet on Thursday, August 6, 2026.”

Mr Karbo’s comments come as the NPP intensifies preparations for the planned protest, which the party says is aimed at drawing attention to what it describes as threats to democratic governance and the rule of law.

It is being organised, among other things, to protest the acquittal of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe, as well as what the party describes as the arbitrary arrest and treatment of some of its members.

The NPP argues that recent developments involving its members raise concerns about fairness, justice and the protection of democratic rights, issues it believes require public attention.
