OSP to Assess Extortion Allegations Against Minority Leader

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that it will assess allegations of extortion and related conduct involving the Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The allegations were publicly raised by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, against the Minority Leader. The OSP said it has taken note of the claims and acknowledged petitions submitted in connection with the matter.

According to the OSP, a joint petition was submitted by two individuals, while two separate petitions were also filed by other persons concerning the allegations.

The anti-corruption agency said the nature of the allegations requires an assessment to determine whether the matter falls within its statutory mandate.

The OSP will also consider whether there are sufficient grounds to warrant further investigative action.

The announcement does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing against any of the parties involved. The allegations will have to be assessed in accordance with the appropriate legal and investigative processes.

The OSP’s statement, dated August 24, 2026, signals that the office is taking the allegations seriously and will determine the appropriate next steps based on its mandate and the facts available.

The development is expected to attract significant public attention as the OSP determines whether the matter should proceed to a formal investigation.
