Police arrest former Boxer Ayitey powers over alleged death threat

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo.
According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Police Command on August 24, 2026, the 46-year-old boxer was arrested in connection with an alleged threat made against Mr. Ampofo.
The arrest follows a video circulating on social media in which Ayitey Powers is alleged to have issued the threat.
The former boxer is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat.
The police have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law once investigations are concluded.
The Command has also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information about the matter while investigations remain ongoing.
