State Interests and Governance Authority Director-General blames ECG’s losses on historical governance lapses but remains optimistic of a recovery.

State Interests and Governance Authority Director-General Prof Michael Kpessa-Whyte says the current losses recorded by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are partly a legacy of governance failures over the years.

Years of weak corporate governance structures and inefficiencies have contributed to the challenges facing the power distribution company.

He however believes With strong corporate governance and economic stability maintained, the utility is expected to bounce back shortly.

This was after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) accounted for GH¢82.31 billion of the total liabilities held by Ghana’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the 2025 financial year, according to the State Interests and Governance Authority
