Yidaani Chief, Son Murdered in Gushegu as Police Launch Probe

The Northern Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the killing of the newly enskinned Yidaani Chief, Naa Ntimla Nwenlarim, and his son, Ntimla Bilagabim, in the Gushegu District.

The two men were reportedly shot dead at their residence by three unidentified armed men in the early hours of Friday, August 14, 2026.

According to sources, the attackers entered the compound at about 2:20 a.m. and demanded to be taken to the Chief’s room. They then forced open the metal door and opened fire on the Chief and his son.

Security personnel who arrived at the scene found the bodies inside the Chief’s room, both bearing multiple gunshot wounds. Five spent BB cartridges were also recovered.

The bodies have since been transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Inspector-General of Police Dr Christian Tettey Yohuno has deployed two teams from the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) at Police Headquarters to Yidaani to reinforce the local police investigation.

The CTU teams are working with local officers to conduct round-the-clock patrols, while personnel from the Regional Police Intelligence Department have been assigned to gather information and assist in tracking down the suspects.

The Northern Regional Security Council, led by Regional Minister Ali Adolf John, has also visited the community and appealed to the bereaved family and residents to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory attacks.

A source close to the investigation said preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have been a targeted attack, given that the assailants specifically demanded access to the Chief’s room before forcibly entering and shooting the two victims.

Security agencies say the situation in Yidaani remains calm as efforts continue to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings.
