Robert Lewandowski named Bundesliga’s player of the season

Polish star striker Robert Lewandowski has been named the Bundesliga’s player of the season for 2019/2020.

In a poll conducted by the official Bundesliga website, the Polish international won by a landslide, scoring 57 percent of votes. Runner-ups were Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund (13 percent) and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz (12.1 percent).

The Polish marksman was recognized for his astonishing performance this season. He scored 33 goals in the Bundesliga alone, and in all competitions for Bayern Munich, he netted a total of 48 times.

Lewandowski has scored a total of 235 goals in the German premier league and is the Bundesliga’s third-highest scorer in history.

Only past German icons Gerd Müller, with 365 goals, and Klaus Fischer, with 268, have netted more in the league’s 57-year history, according to the website.

The 31-year-old, who also captains Poland’s national squad, was last year crowned the top scorer of Germany’s Bundesliga premier league in the 2018/2019 season, his fourth such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010.
