Tokyo 2020: Ghanaian Athlete To Watch Today [Azamati Kwaku Benjamin]


Azamati Kwaku Benjamin is a male Ghanaian Olympic Games Athlete for Men’s 100m Relay.

Benjamin’s bio shows that he participated in the World Athletics Championship in Doha, 2021, World Relays in Chorzow, 2021 and African Games in Rabat, 2019.

He is scheduled for the Olympic Games Men’s 100m Round 1- Heat 7 competition on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

He was born on January 14, 1998 and he is currently – 23 years

Benjamin was born in Akim Oda, found in the Eastern Region, one of the three States of the Akyem state in Ghana.

He mainly resides in the United States of America.

His hobbies include playing the card game Uno, watching football and playing video games.

He studied at the University of Ghana, Accra, GHA.

He speaks English fluently

His club name is West Texas A&M University Canyon, TX, USA.

He played football growing up but switched to athletics while attending Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School in Accra, Ghana. He transitioned from football to athletics after his physical education teachers spotted his talent for the sport. 

He is being trained by Elorm Amenakpor, a Ghana-based coach.

His philosophical idea is “Never question greatness.”

He was named National Collegiate Athletic Association [NCAA] Division II South Central Region Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year. 

He also received the Lone Star Conference Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award in 2021.

In 2020, he was named Most Exceptional Ghanaian Student-Athlete at the Ghana Sports Excellence Awards. 

After beginning a bachelor’s degree in marine science at the University of Ghana in 2020, he transferred to West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX, United States of America, to study for a veterinary degree. 

He holds the Gold Event Medal, Silver Event Medal and Bronze Event Medal.
