Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 25, 2026

GhanaTalksRadio ("GhanaTalksRadio", "we", "us", or "our") operates the GhanaTalksRadio website, mobile applications, and related streaming and engagement services (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights available to you. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account information: name, email address, phone number, and password when you register for an account.
  • Profile information: country, region, city, age range, gender, and interests, where you choose to provide them.
  • Advertiser and payment information: if you book advertising with us, we collect your company name, contact details, and campaign materials. Payments are processed by our payment partner (Flutterwave); we do not store your full card or mobile money details ourselves.
  • Content you submit: quiz answers, poll votes, raffle and prediction entries, comments, and any other content you choose to submit through the Service.
  • Communications: messages you send us, including through our Contact Us page.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Listening activity: when you play the live stream or an episode, we record session information such as the time you connected, how long you listened, and the programme or episode played, so we can operate the Service and report audience statistics.
  • Device and technical information: device type, operating system, browser or app client, and a unique device identifier used to keep your session accurate across reconnects.
  • Approximate location: your IP address is used to determine your general (city/region-level) location for every session. If you separately grant permission, we also use precise GPS coordinates from your device to show a more accurate location on our audience map. You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings, and the Service will continue to work normally without it.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies to remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the Service is used. See Section 5 below.

1.3 Information from third parties

We may receive limited information from third-party services we use to operate the Service, such as push notification delivery confirmations from Firebase Cloud Messaging, or payment confirmation from Flutterwave.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including the live radio stream, podcasts, and account features;
  • personalise your experience, including recommendations and your engagement history (points, streaks, and leaderboard standing);
  • process transactions and communicate with advertisers about their campaigns;
  • send you service-related notifications (such as "studio is live" or feature announcements) and, where you have not opted out, promotional messages;
  • measure and report audience statistics to help us run the station and support our advertising business - these reports use aggregated numbers (such as total or unique listeners) and are not shared with advertisers in a way that identifies you individually;
  • maintain the security and integrity of the Service, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and violations of our terms; and
  • comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests from public authorities.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: with vendors who help us operate the Service, such as our hosting provider, our payment processor (Flutterwave), and our push-notification provider (Google Firebase), each of whom is only permitted to use your information to provide services to us.
  • Advertisers: only in aggregated, anonymised form (for example, total or regional listener counts) - never your individual identity or contact details, unless you separately and knowingly interact with an advertiser's own offer.
  • Legal and safety reasons: where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, protect the rights, property, or safety of GhanaTalksRadio, our users, or the public, or to enforce our terms.
  • Business transfers: if GhanaTalksRadio is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Listening-session data is retained for audience reporting purposes and is periodically aggregated or removed. If you delete your account (see Section 6 below), we delete your account record and associated personal data promptly, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use our website. You can control cookies through your browser settings; declining non-essential cookies will not prevent you from using the core features of the Service.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate information, for example through your profile settings;
  • delete your account and associated personal data at any time, immediately and without needing to contact support, via our Account Deletion page; and
  • opt out of promotional push notifications at any time from within the app, without affecting service-related notifications.

To exercise any right not covered above, or if you have questions about this Policy, please reach us through our Contact Us page.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted storage of sensitive credentials. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Data Transfers

Some of the service providers described in Section 3 may process information outside Ghana. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.

10. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites, advertisements, or services that are not operated by us. This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies before providing them with information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Effective date" above when we do, and material changes will be communicated through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after a revised Policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

12. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana, including the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). Any disputes relating to this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ghana.

13. Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us via our Contact Us page.
